Michaud Responds to USTR Testimony on KORUS

Apr 7, 2011 Issues: Global Trade

WASHINGTON, DC Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement after Ambassador Demetrios Marantis, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, testified before the Ways and Means Committee that the President has an implementing bill for KORUS already drafted:

“Today USTR testified that the President has an implementing bill for KORUS already drafted and ready for congressional consideration. That makes sense given yesterday’s announcement by the Administration that they had agreed to Republican demands to move forward with the Colombia deal despite the extreme human rights and labor rights violations in that country. The Colombia and Korea free trade agreements are bad for American workers and our economy. And the Administration’s plan to package together these two flawed agreements is even worse.”
