Michaud Announces Release of $3,481,912 in Airport Funding
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman
Michaud announced that the Department of Transportation is releasing a total of
$3,481,912 in funding for runway construction and rehabilitation projects at
six different municipal airports.
Airports receiving funding are Dewitt Field in Old
Town, the Central Maine Airport of
Norridgewock, Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport, Belfast
Municipal Airport,
Caribou Municipal
Airport, and the Hancock County-Bar
Harbor Airport.
"I am pleased
that the Federal Aviation
Administration has
released this funding," said Michaud. "These
projects should help improve the safety of our local airports and compliment
our state's overall transportation infrastructure."
Dewitt
Field will receive $600,000 to make safety improvements to runway 12-30 which
will result in compliant runway end safety areas. The Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock is
also planning to rehabilitate one of its runways with its funds of
$170,000. Norridgewock also plans to
assess the environmental impacts of its improvements.
The
Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport will receive $190,000 to fund an evaluation
of the environmental impacts of constructing a parallel taxiway for runway
4-22. The taxiway is a necessary feature
to meet airport design standards.
Both
Belfast Municipal
Airport and Caribou Municipal
Airport will use their
funds to improve their general aviation aircraft parking aprons. Belfast Municipal will receive $303,878 to
expand its apron to accommodate current demand, while Caribou Municipal will
receive $70,000 to reconstruct its apron.
The
Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport will receive $2,148,034 for its reconstruction
project of runway 17-35. The airport
plans to improve runway safety areas in order to meet current standards.
